Circulation Rules
Obtaining a Library Card
Your first Ruidoso Public Library card is free.
Applicants 17 years and under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to obtain their own card. If the parent or legal guardian does not already have one, these cards can be issued at the same time.
A replacement Library Card is $1.00.
A library card may only be used by the person in whose name the card is issued or the responsible adult in the case of minors with linked family cards. If the card owner has difficulty getting to the library, call the Library Manager to see if special arrangements can be made.
Checking Out Material
· Library members must present a valid library card in good standing or a valid ID.
· Up to 20 items may be checked out on one library card
· Books check out for three weeks
· DVD movies check out for one week with a limit of 8 movies per family and only 1 DVD for temporary card holders. Only two seasons of a series may be checked out at a time.
· Audiobooks checkout for three weeks with a limit of 6 for a regular card and none for a temporary card.
· Magazines check out for one week.
Requesting Materials
· Items from the library collection may be reserved from any internet computer by accessing the library catalog, using your library card barcode number and PIN number as login credentials
· When a requested item is available, you will be notified by phone or email
· You will be given SEVEN (7) days after notification to pick up the reserved item.
· For materials not in the library collection, there is a purchase request form or an Interlibrary Loan request form that can be filled out with circulation staff.
· Different loan conditions might apply to items borrowed on Inter-Library Loan from other libraries.
Library Account Login
· Your library account may be accessed by logging in to your account.
· Your login is the complete barcode on your library card plus your 4 digit PIN.
· Your PIN is four digits and may be set with the circulation staff at the library circulation desk
Overdue Material
· A cardholder is responsible for all material checked out on their library card.
· Overdue material may incur fines and replacement charges if not returned by the due date.
Renewal
If no requests have been placed against the item, library material may be renewed ONCE by any of these methods
· Call 575 258 3704 and have your library barcode number and details of the item to be renewed ready
· Come into the library
· Renewal will not be possible if there is a hold on the item on if patron owes $10.00 or more in fines.
· Renewals beyond the 1st renewal can only be done by a library staff member and only under extenuating circumstances.
Fines
Fines are levied at .10 cents per day per library book or audiobook and .50 cents per day per DVD.
Replacement and Processing costs
· Replacement and processing fees will be charged on items overdue 60 days or more
· If an item is found and returned after billing as Lost and before payment, the replacement fee will be waived, but overdue fees will still apply at 10 cents per day.
· Refunds cannot be made after payment has been tendered for lost items.
· Damaged items will be assessed by library staff with charges applied according to damage
Returns
When the library is closed, materials may be left in the drive-by book drop at the main entrance to Ruidoso Public Library.
Suspension of Borrowing Privileges
· Borrowing privileges of library members owing $10 or more are suspended until payment is made.
